Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Teens in Flower Mound, TX

When weekly therapy isn't moving the needle but full-day programming is more than your teen needs, IOP is the level of care in between. Tuesday through Thursday, half-day or full-day, our team in Flower Mound works alongside teens ages 13–17 — building real skills and a different story, while leaving room for school, activities, and life at home. Every plan is built around the individual teen, whether they're stepping down from PHP or starting with us here.

You've been doing everything you can. And something still isn't right.

You didn't arrive here by chance. Something has been building — maybe for weeks, maybe for years — and what you've been doing isn't quite reaching it. Maybe your teen has finished PHP and needs a real next step rather than a drop straight back into weekly sessions. Maybe they've been in therapy for months and progress has stalled. Or maybe things shifted quickly and you need more support than a once-a-week appointment can offer. Whatever brought you here, there's a level of care that fits.

Your teen may be carrying one of these — or more than one at once.

Anxiety

Panic attacks, school refusal, a world that keeps getting smaller. The worry that never turns off.

Depression

Flat, furious, or completely gone. The teen you know has disappeared and you don't know how to reach them.

Trauma & ptsd

Something happened — and it hasn't stayed in the past. It's showing up in their body, their relationships, and their daily life.

Self-Harm

Not manipulation. Not attention. A teenager in real pain who found the one thing that gives them temporary relief.

Emotional Dysregulation

Explosions from nowhere. Complete shutdowns. A nervous system with more feeling than tools to manage it.

School Refusal

They're not going. Or they're barely holding together while they're there and falling apart the moment they get home.

Suicidal Ideation

The thoughts are there. They're stable enough to be home — but this level of support isn't enough anymore.

Addiction

Substances, screens, or something harder to name. A teenager reaching for something external to manage internal pain.

post-Inpatient

The hospital stabilized the crisis. Now your teen needs the bridge that makes it actually hold.

We don't treat the diagnosis. We treat the whole person behind it.

At Restoration, every teen who walks through our door brings a story — shaped by experiences, relationships, and moments that deserve care, not just clinical labels. Our approach is trauma-informed, relationship-based, and built around a single belief: people are not their problems. We help teenagers separate who they are from what they've been through, understand the narratives that have been keeping them stuck, and begin to rewrite something truer and better.

Narrative Therapy

Re-authoring identity involves helping teens distinguish their true selves from the challenges they face. This process empowers them to see beyond their struggles, fostering a sense of self that is not defined by their difficulties. By focusing on their strengths and potential, teens can begin to craft a narrative that reflects their resilience and capacity for growth.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Four daily skill rotations: Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Executive Functioning

EMDR & TF-CBT

Our evidence-based trauma processing methods, such as EMDR and TF-CBT, are designed to be adaptable to each teen's unique pace and tolerance. These therapies focus on safely processing traumatic memories, helping teens gradually reduce the emotional impact of past experiences. By doing so, they can begin to heal and regain control over their lives, fostering resilience and emotional stability.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy helps teens explore their inner world by identifying and understanding different 'parts' of themselves. These parts might include the inner critic, which often judges harshly, the protector, which tries to shield them from pain, and the wounded part, which holds past hurts. By approaching these parts with curiosity rather than judgment, teens can develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves, leading to healing and integration.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages teens to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. By focusing on values and committed actions, teens learn to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and purpose. This approach helps them build a life that aligns with their core values, even in the presence of discomfort.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a powerful tool that helps teens identify and alter negative thought patterns. By recognizing these patterns, teens can learn to challenge and change them, leading to healthier behaviors and improved emotional well-being. This approach empowers them to break free from cycles of negativity and develop a more positive outlook on life.

Trust-Based Relational Intervention

Attachment-focused, trust-building care that delves into the underlying causes of challenging behavior. This approach emphasizes creating a secure and nurturing environment where teens feel safe to express themselves. By fostering strong, positive relationships, it helps address emotional and behavioral issues at their core, promoting healing and growth.

Motivational Interviewing

Encouraging teens to discover their own motivations for change, this approach focuses on internal growth rather than external demands. By fostering a sense of autonomy, teens are empowered to make meaningful decisions that align with their values and goals.

Expressive Therapies

Art, music, trauma-informed yoga, and outdoor education offer a holistic approach to healing. These expressive therapies allow teens to explore their emotions creatively and safely, fostering personal growth and emotional resilience.

Here's what a day in IOP actually looks like.

Tuesday through Thursday, with half-day and full-day options. No two teens arrive with the same story, so no two treatment plans look identical — the schedule below is the shape of a typical day, tailored to what each teen actually needs. Every week is built around a new "Re" theme, so teens can enter at any point and immediately feel like they belong.

Check-in & grounding

A calm, intentional start. Not just roll call — a real moment to arrive and settle in.

DBT skills group

Rotating through Executive Functioning, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness — practiced daily, not just described.

Academic coordination

Our certified teachers coordinate directly with your teen's school district on attendance, makeup work, and IEP or 504 accommodations. Teens in the full-day option can receive additional on-site academic support — so treatment and school work together instead of against each other.

Narrative or ACT-based group

Personal story and values work — the heart of what makes Restoration different.

Individual therapy

Private, unhurried time with their primary therapist — building the relationship where the real work happens.

Specialty group

Health & Wellness, Life Transitions, Outdoor Education, or Spiritual Care — chosen to meet where teens actually are.

Expressive activity

Art therapy, music therapy, or trauma-informed yoga — pathways for healing that words alone can't always reach.

Check-out & reflection

Reflection, grounding, and safety planning as needed. A thoughtful close before your teen heads back into the rest of their day.

Whatever brought you here — there's a path forward for your teenager.

A free, honest conversation

Before anything else, we get on a call with you. No intake forms, no pressure. Just a real conversation about what's going on and whether we're the right fit.

We handle the insurance

We're out-of-network with all major commercial plans — and we verify your benefits and walk you through the financial picture clearly before you commit to anything.

A thorough, compassionate intake

Our clinical team takes the time to understand your teen's full history, their needs, and their goals. We coordinate with any previous providers — with your permission — so nothing falls through the cracks.

A gentle first week

The first few days are about getting comfortable — meeting the space, the team, and the other teens. Individual work begins right away: core values, externalizing the problem, and the foundational question "How did I get here?"

Three days a week of real treatment

Groups, individual therapy, DBT skills, family programming, and academic coordination — guided by a weekly "Re" theme that gives treatment a coherent arc. Half-day or full-day, built around your teen's specific needs and your family's situation. Enough structure to create real change, with enough room for school, activities, and life at home.

A thoughtful step-down — not a goodbye

IOP isn't meant to last forever. As your teen builds skills and steadies, we plan the next step together — whether that's outpatient therapy, a community referral, or simply less frequent support. We don't discharge without a real plan.

Frequently asked Questions

How is IOP different from PHP or weekly therapy?

Think of it as a middle gear. Weekly therapy is one hour a week. PHP is full-day, five days a week. IOP sits between them — Tuesday through Thursday, half-day or full-day — with enough intensity to create real change while leaving room for school, activities, and family life. Some teens step down into IOP after PHP. Others start here directly because it's the right fit from the beginning.

What makes Restoration different from other programs?

Most programs build around a diagnosis. We build around a story. Our Narrative Therapy foundation means your teen isn't defined by their anxiety, depression, or trauma — they're guided to separate themselves from those things and start writing something new. The weekly Re framework gives treatment a cohesive arc that most programs don't have.

What about school?

Academic support in IOP is built around each teen's situation rather than a fixed template. Our certified teachers coordinate directly with your teen's school district on attendance, makeup work, and IEP or 504 accommodations. For teens in the full-day option, additional on-site academic support is available. We'll talk through what your teen actually needs during intake and build the plan from there.

My teenager doesn't want to come. What do we do?

Reluctance is completely normal — and honestly, something we're experienced at working through. Once teens arrive, the weekly themes, the expressive activities, and the peer connection tend to break the ice in ways traditional therapy doesn't. Most teens who arrive skeptical tell us they're glad they came — usually within the first week.

Does my teen have to complete PHP first?

Not at all. IOP works both ways — as a step-down after PHP, and as a direct starting point for teens who need more than weekly therapy but don't require full-day programming. Our clinical team will help you figure out which level of care actually fits during a free consultation.

Do you accept insurance?

We understand that cost and insurance are often one of the first things on a parent's mind — and we want to help, not add to the worry. Restoration works with out-of-network benefits and offers flexible private pay options. The best next step is a quick conversation: reach out and our team will help you verify your benefits, understand your coverage, and find an option that works for your family. You don't have to figure it out alone.

Good things are going to happen. Let’s start today.

Whether you're in the middle of a crisis or just know your teen needs more than a weekly appointment, you don't have to navigate this alone.
